Dr. Alix Keenan-Courter, Doctor of Audiology, received her doctorate in Audiology though the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2004. She practiced at a prominent ear, nose, and throat clinic in Denver before moving back to her home town in Fort Morgan to open her private practice. Dr. Keenan will be seeing patient on the fourth Monday of each month. Call Platte Valley Hearing Center, Inc. for an appointment.
Wray Community District Hospital is proud to work with Dr. Paul Hurst. Dr. Hurst has been seeing cardiology patients at the Wray Specialty Clinic since August of 1992 and is one of our longest running Specialty Physicians. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky in 1983 and completed his residency at the Arizona Health Sciences Center in Internal Medicine with a Fellow in Cardiology. Dr. Hurst is an active staff physician of the CardioVascular Institute of Northern Colorado. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with a subspecialty of Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Hurst is well published and active in multiple outreach specialty clinic programs.
The Wray Community District Hospital is pleased to have as a member of its staff of visiting specialists Dr. Cecilia Hirsch, a staff cardiologist at the CardioVascular Institute at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado. She received her education in Romania and the United States. She completed Medical School and Residency training in Romania, and in 2001 she completed her Internal Medicine residency at Saint Joseph Hospital with the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver. Dr. Hirsch completed her General Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Colorado as well in 2009. On a personal note, she is a US Citizen, fluent in English, and enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 small children. Dr. Hirsch visits on a regular, rotating monthly schedule to the Specialty Clinic at the Wray Community District Hospital.
Denver Dermatologist Dr. Adam Asarch, MD earned his undergraduate and medical school degrees at Tufts University where he graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and with research honors. He completed his dermatology residency as well as his fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology at the University of Iowa. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles on the subjects of dermatology and dermatologic surgery. He has presented at many regional and national dermatologic meetings and is a member of numerous medical and dermatological associations and societies. In addition to his work in private practice, Dr. Asarch volunteers as a physician and instructor at the Veterans Affairs Hospital with University of Colorado dermatology residents, he sits on the tumor board at HealthOne Swedish Hospital, is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery and is also credentialed at Porter Hospital and Castle Rock Adventist Hospital. He is married with 2 daughters. Dr. Richard Asarch, MD is the head of the Asarch Center for Dermatology, Laser & Mohs Surgery in Englewood, CO, its accompanying state-of-the-art DermaSpa and is an Associate Clinical Professor for the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Asarch introduced Moh's Surgery, the procedure that has the highest cure rate for all skin cancers, to the State of Colorado in 1977 after he had studied with Dr. Frederic Mohs in Madison, Wisconsin. In 1983, Dr. Asarch was the first doctor in Colorado to incorporate laser treatments for skin issue correction. Dr. Bruce Kornfeld began seeing Dermatology patients at the Wray Hospital in April of 1996. The Wray Hospital is proud to have such a long relationship with this Specialty Physician. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado Health Sciences center School of Medicine in 1984 and completed his Residency in Dermatology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center while serving in the US Military. Dr. Kornfeld has been certified since 1988 by the American Board of Dermatology and currently works for Group Dermatology Practice: Dermatology and Laser Center of Fort Collins.
The Wray Community District Hospital is proud to work with Douglas Peller, D.O. as a Specialty Physician. Dr. Peller began his clinics in Wray in October 2004. He is a graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He is certified by the American Board of Otorhinolaryngolog (Ear, Nose and Throat) with a sub-specialty in Facial Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery and Head and Neck Oncology. Dr. Peller resides in Thornton with his wife and three children.
Dr. Ekberg’s focus on gynecological services includes preventative and well woman care for women through all stages of life. Her special interests include evaluation and treatment of numerous pelvis syndromes, including endometriosis, heavy and painful menstrual cycles, irregular bleeding cycles, abnormal pap smears and painful intercourse, and menopausal issues. She also works with women with issues with all types of urinary complaints, including incontinence and pelvic prolapse to evaluate, diagnose, educate and treat. If surgery is the necessary treatment, Dr. Ekberg does most minimally invasive procedures including vaginal and laparoscopic surgery. Her philosophy on her role as a women’s gynecologist is to provide an atmosphere that is comfortable and open. She believes that healthcare is a team effort and the input of all parties is necessary to make a decision that not onlt accomplishes an appropriate treatment, but also takes into consideration all of the different components that go into making that decision.
Dr. Matthew Uyemura provides ophthalmology services at the Wray Community District Hospital Specialty Clinic twice each month. Dr. Uyemura began practicing in Greeley in 1999. After graduating from Greeley Central High School he earned his bachelors and medical degrees from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Uyemura did his internship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center and then spent a year at Fort Greely, Alaska as a general medical officer. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Fitzsimons and practiced ophthalmology at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri prior to returning to Greeley. He was board certified in 1996. Dr. Uyemura is past-president of the Weld County Medical Society and is also active in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Uyemura performs eye exams and surgical procedures, including cataracts at the Wray Community District Hospital. Dr. Uyemura lives on a small farm with his wife, Julie, and their six children.
Dr. Brian Shannon is a board-certified fellowship-trained sports medicine orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating musculoskeletal injuries and diseases. Dr. Shannon grew up in Wisconsin, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt University. He returned back to his home state to attend an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin before completing his training with a fellowship in sports medicine at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine. Dr. Shannon's clinical interests cover all aspects of sports medicine including non-operative care, ligament reconstruction, joint stabilization, cartilage restoration and arthroscopy. In addition, he provides general orthopedic treatment of fractures and arthritis (including both partial and total joint replacement). Dr. Shannon has extensive experience caring for athletes at all levels of competition from amateur to professional. In his free time, Dr. Shannon enjoys weightlifting, hiking, reading, and travelling.
James Yakel, D.P.M. completed his undergraduate education at Kearney State College. He then attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, where graduated in 1994. He completed his residency in podiatric surgery at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland Ohio. He has practiced for 18 years with 16 years of that in Colorado. Dr. Yakel is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Yakel has published in professional medical journals, lectured on podiatric sports medicine topics, and is a regular contributor to STACK magazine. While he enjoys all phases of podiatric medicine, his passion is sports medicine. He currently serves as the team podiatrist for the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer.
The Wray Community District Hospital and Clinic has been pleased to work with Dr. Robert Bogin since December, 2009. Dr. Bogin is a 1981 graduate of Cornell University Medical College. He then completed his fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Hospital. Dr. Bogin is Board Certified in Pulmonary and Internal Medicine. Currently, Dr. Bogin resides in Evergreen, Colorado and is positioned with the Critical Care, Pulmonary and Sleep Associates, LLC of Denver, Colorado. In addition to seeing patients in clinic for lung disorders, Dr. Bogin is part of the Critical Care team that oversees the Intensive Care Unit at St. Anthony Central, Parker Adventist and Porter Adventist Hospitals. Dr. Bogin has made numerous contributions to the medical field including publications, television appearances, and board appointments.
The Wray Community District Hospital is pleased to announce that Khashair Charepoo, MD, Urologist, is providing services in Wray. Dr. Charepoo is Board Certified by the American Board of Urology and has been in practice since 1968. He was Chief of Urology at Warren General Hospital in Warren, PA for 22 years, before moving his practice to Greeley in 2001. Dr. Charepoo has been providing services exclusively at the Wray Community District Hospital since 2008. Dr. Charepoo provides a full range of urology services in both the clinic and hospital settings with special interests in Urological Oncology, Female Urology and Endourology. Dr. Charepoo's pleasant nature and infectioius smile adds to his years of experience.
