Donna is a fifth generation Northeastern Coloradoan who began her nursing career in Wray in the mid 1970’s as a Nursing Assistant then LPN before earning Undergraduate Degrees in Nursing, as well as, Food, Nutrition and Dietetics with a minor in Gerontology from the University of Northern Colorado. She later completed a Graduate Degree at the University of Colorado to become a Nurse Practitioner and specializes in Primary Care of Adolescents through Geriatrics.
Donna has over two decades of administrative experience as Administrator of Hospice of the Plains and previously as Director of Nursing, Staff Development Coordinator and Charge Nurse in Yuma County long term care facilities. The past decade, Donna served on the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s Rural Task Force to ensure the challenges of rural healthcare were made known to those drafting policies and legislation.
In February 2013, Donna was appointed by Governor Hickenlooper and confirmed by the Senate Health and Human Services Committee to serve on the Colorado Medical Services Board. She was reappointed in 2016 for a final four-year term. The Board reviews all rules promulgated by the Colorado Department of Health Care and Public Financing (Medicaid) providing an opportunity to question, request modification and ensure rules are equitable to all Coloradoans.
