Wray Community District Hospital is a host site for the Northern Colorado Family Medicine Residency Training Program based out of North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado. Wray Community District Hospital hosts two residency training slots where Family Medicine Residents train their first year in Greeley and train in Wray full-time for their second year and third year curricula. Members of the local Family Medicine Medical Staff in Wray are adjunct professors for the Residency program and interview new candidates for the Wray track each year. The local Family Medicine practitioners provide an excellent perspective as to which candidates would be the best match for a rural assignment such as Wray. Candidates selected for the Wray Track are involved in all aspects of Family Medicine including Obstetrics and C-Sections.

Wray Community District Hospital and Clinic’s new resident doctor comes to us from Denver, Colorado.  Shannon Shaw, M.D., received her bachelor’s degree at Western State University in Gunnison and went to medical school at the University of Colorado, Anschutz.

Dr. Shaw originally wanted to go into general surgery but switched directions to rural medicine because she enjoyed the pace of practicing rural and the broad scope of care.

When she is not in doctor mode, Dr. Shaw enjoys time with her two special needs dogs, hiking, camping, and snowboarding.  In her younger years, her father was a boy scout leader for her brothers.  She tagged along most of the time and admits she has accrued most of those boy scout skills.

Something she wishes she could tell each patient is “you’re doing better than you think you are.”

Dr. Shaw will be here for 2 years.  She is now seeing patients at the Wray Clinic.  Welcome to the team!
