WCDH Equipping Caregivers to Provide Hope
September 7, 2022

Suicide is a major concern for public health in our country and our community.  Evidence proves that a vast majority of people that have committed suicide had been seen by a healthcare provider in the previous year before attempt.  This proves a call to action by all healthcare providers.

Wray Community District Hospital (WCDH) implements Zero Suicide initiative committing to prevent suicide through raising awareness, improving access to screenings, and preparing all employees to know how to talk to those at risk of suicide.

As part of the Zero Suicide initiative, WCDH has three staff members that are Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention trainers.  These individuals increase awareness for suicidal risks and warning signs, provide simple intervention techniques, provide community resources, and reduce the public stigmas associated with depression and help-seeking behaviors.

“The most vital difference we can make through our work is to save lives,” said John Hart, CEO.  “We hope to make suicide a “never event”.  To some this may sound audacious, but simply put, one life lost to suicide is too many.”
