WCDH Represented for Senate Bill 24-168
April 1, 2024

Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist and Registered Nurse, Karla Saffer, went to the Colorado State Capital to testify at the request of Dr. Sean and Tamara Oser with CU Primary Diabetes Lab on behalf of Senate Bill 24-168 to the HHS Committee to represent Wray Community District Hospital (WCDH).

House Senate Bill 24-168 was written by Senators Roberts and Simpson.  It is a bill concerning remote patient monitoring (RPM) and expanding access to Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) for CO Medicaid members. The bill will be appropriate grant monies for underserved (rural) clinics to be eligible to apply for grants that will help organizations afford the cost of RPM systems.  These systems are expensive and out of most rural health clinic’s budgets.  Additionally, CGM will now be available to anyone with any type of diabetes.  This is huge for the Wray Clinic and any clinic in rural Colorado.

The bill was passed anonymously in the HHS Committee, and it will now go to the Appropriations Committee to decide on the size of the grant fund.

Thank you to Karla for representing WCDH and helping our patients with diabetes manage and prevent this disease.
